Introduction 

This summer (July 6 – July 27, 2023), VinUniversity partners with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) to run 2023 UIUC-VinUni Summer School for Vietnamese High Schoolers from 9th to 12th graders. We invite motivated students to join our joint program called “What It Takes: Exploring Engineering Summer Camp“. This is a part of the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) program at The Grainger College of Engineering, UIUC that is designed for fostering excellence and diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). It introduces talented and diverse pre-college students to active college students, and together they explore engineering and the sciences through hands-on, minds-on activities. Campers will gain knowledge for selecting engineering majors and preparing for their college applications. This year, VinUniversity partners with UIUC to host this summer camp both virtual and locally at VinUni.

What do we offer?  

Selected high school students will join a virtual camp run by UIUC, which offers:

• Multi-week experience of exploring 10-12 engineering fields through presentations, speakers, demonstrations, and hands-on labs and projects.
• Virtual field trips to working research labs on campus and related industries.
• Unique breakout sessions around special interests such as women and minorities in engineering, college essay writing, and more.
• Meet new people and engage socially as well as academically during small group sessions via web conference, facilitated by a University of Illinois student who will be your guide for the camp.

In parallel with the Virtual camp at UIUC, we also run in-person activities at the VinUni campus. The participating students will:

• Be mentored by local camp counselors, who are VinUni undergraduate students participating in the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center summer school.
• Meet in person with VinUni and UIUC faculty members at the VinUni campus to learn about their latest world-changing innovations.

How to apply?

To submit your application to attend the camp, you are required to complete the application form through the UIUC portal. Please note that:

• Required fields are indicated with an asterisk.
• For the field “First Choice for Summer Camp*”, please select: “What It Takes: Exploring Engineering (7/6 – 7/27) Online, Grades 9 – 12”.
• In the field of “Personal Statement”, please state that: “I apply to this camp through the VinUniversity program.”
• The application portal will remain open past the deadline for VinUni campers.

Cost

$400 per camper, with several scholarships available based on the quality of applications.
