VISHC Summer School 2023 | Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program

VISHC Summer School 2023

Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (VISHC-REU)

Open Date: April 1, 2023 – Close Date: May 31, 2023

One of the key missions of the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC) is training the next generation workforce to advance the field of smart health. During the 2023 Summer Academic Break between July 1st – August, 15 2023, we will organize the VISHC Research Experiences for Undergraduates (VISHC-REU) program that supports active research participation by VinUni undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by VISHC, including Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Vision, NLP, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Clinical and Molecular Biology. These experiences give you the opportunity to actively participate in ongoing research projects at VISHC and work with faculty and researchers from VinUni and USA. The training program will accept 20 undergrad students who will spend 6 weeks over the summer in the program. The main goals of the program are to:

  • Match students with faculty and mentors who will direct the student to complete the smart health-related projects.
  • Help each student learn and improve research skills.
  • Train the student to prepare scientific posters and talks, in particular in presenting their research work at scientific meetings.

At the conclusion of the program, each student will present her or his work held on VinUni campus. Through these experiences, you develop not just your research skills, but also your interpersonal skills. You are able to explore your fields of interest, perform research, and build relationships with scholars. If you’re interested in the 3+2 and 4+1 integrated programs at VinUni, the VISHC-REU program may open doors to that opportunity.

Expected Deliverables

A 5-page summary report is expected, in addition to the research deliverables as defined here in the proposal by the student and faculty advisor. All the research deliverables should be sent to by the end of the program. In addition, we hope most of the VISHC-REU projects eventually will turn into peer-reviewed publications.

Funding & Support

  • A 10,000,000 VNĐ stipend to each student over 6 weeks.
  • Room and board at VinUni dormitory.
  • 4 independent study credits.
