Call for Integrated Bachelor’s – Master’s Degree Programs with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
I. About UIUC
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is a public research university in Illinois, U.S., that was founded in 1867. With over 35,000 undergraduate and 20,500 graduate students, UIUC is one of the largest public universities by enrollment in the U.S.. The university contains 16 schools and colleges and offers more than 150 undergraduate and over 100 graduate programs of study. The university holds 651 buildings on 2,578 ha and its annual operating budget in 2016 was over $2 billion. The alumni, faculty members, or researchers of the university have been awarded 24 Nobel Prizes, 29 Pulitzer Prizes, and the Fields Medal in Mathematics. According to the U.S News & World Report’s Graduate and Undergraduate Rankings, the Grainger College of Engineering at UIUC is ranked 5th in undergraduate and 9th in graduate overall. The graduate programs in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering are all ranked in the top 5.
II. Eligibility
- Currently be full-time 4th-year student at VinUni.
- Meet all graduate admission requirements at UIUC, especially the English requirements.
- Have no major disciplinary action pending at the time of application submission and an account of good financial standing at VinUni.
- Have completed all required undergraduate courses at VinUni before the start date of the integrated program at UIUC.
III. Student Expenses
For the 1st phase of the Program during which students study at VinUni for their 4-year program of undergraduate degree, they will pay VinUni tuition, fees and required expenses to VinUni. For the 2nd phase of the Program during which students will study at UIUC, students will be responsible for paying the applicable host university’s tuition, fees and other expenses to UIUC. Students will need to take care of the travel, visa, accommodation, insurance and personal living expenses and any administration and facility access fees required by UIUC
IV. Scholarships and Financial Support
According to the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center Collaboration Agreement, VinUni, through the Vingroup Science and Technology Scholarship Program, will fund scholarships including stipends and tuition fees for those who are Vietnamese citizens and are selected by VISHC to study at UIUC. The scholarship will cover the 1 year of the master’s
program at UIUC, in which each master’s scholarship will pay $20K stipend and $13K cost-of-education allocation to UIUC, per year. UIUC Grainger College of Engineering will accept up to 5 of such master’s scholarships from VinUni for this call.
V. Application Procedure
- Step 1: Students do research about the intended integrated degree programs they would like to
apply and study the requirements of these programs - Step 2: Students submit their applications to the Global Exchange Application Portal by the
application deadline. Please follow the attached application instructions when applying via the
application portal. - Step 3: Applications will be evaluated and interviewed by the VISHC Review Committee.
- Step 4: Evaluation results will be announced to students for nomination acceptance.
- Step 5: VinUni/VISHC sends the list of nominated students to UIUC.
- Step 6: Nominated students submit their applications to UIUC following their application process
by January 15, next year. - Step 7: UIUC reviews the nominations/applications, makes the final decision, and issues the
Letter of Acceptance to the successful students following their review timelines. - Step 8: The Vingroup Scholarship Review Committee will conduct the interview for each of the
applicants and announce the result to students for scholarship acceptance.

- Master of Computer Science (MCS)
- Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Mechanical Engineering
- Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Autonomy & Robotics
- Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Bioengineering
- Master of Science in Industrial Engineering
- Master of Science in Health Technology
Please be aware that the Integrated Bachelor’s-Master’s Degree Programs (4+1) offer Professional Master’s (or Master of Engineering) degrees, which are one-year programs without a thesis requirement. This program is designed for students with a focus on careers in the industrial sector. If you are interested in pursuing research work, we encourage you to apply to the VISHC PhD program.
