One of the most outstanding research projects of Dr. Hieu is called “VAIPE – Smart health care monitoring and support system for Vietnamese people”, conducted with his research team and partners at the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center. This project also received sponsorship from the Vingroup Innovation Fund (VinIF). VAIPE provides a mobile platform that allows collecting, managing, and analyzing personal health data, and automatically identifying medicine from pill images. Medicine usage habits, heart rate, blood pressure, height, weight… will be collected and analyzed to provide recommendations on safe medicine usage, warnings for wrong medication, and early diagnosis for dangerous illnesses.
The VAIPE system uses advanced technologies in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and Data Science. It is also low cost, easy to use and accessible on a large scale for community health improvement. This project won the ISCN Excellence Award 2022 for international sustainable development.
