Smart Health Series in the Academic Year of 2022-2023 has restarted!

Last Thursday, November 24, 2022, Smart Health Series was delighted to kickstart in the academic year of 2022-2023. We were honored to welcome Professor Huy Phan from Queen Mary University of London & Amazon R&D to deliver a lecture talk on the topic of “Machine Learning applied to Home-based Healthcare Monitoring”. The seminar has received great intentions, with more than 80 participants from both outside and inside VinUniversity. We were more than happy to receive some registration forms from overseas.

There is an urgent need for efficient, accessible, cost-effective, and scalable healthcare solutions that can serve a large population. Hence, it opens a great opportunity to explore state-of-the-art computational modeling techniques combined with non-invasive, wearable sensors, actuators, and modern communication technologies to bring healthcare solutions to home-based environments. The goal is to develop user-friendly wearable devices, new signal processing techniques, and novel machine learning algorithms targeted at home-based health and medical care monitoring applications. The talk given by Prof. Huy Phan showcased two important applications including acoustic monitoring for sound event detection and sleep monitoring with mobile EEG wearable devices. In particular, he showed a powerful deep-learning architecture called XsleepNet for Automatic Sleep Staging.

‘As a person who is interested in Sleep AI, it was such a great opportunity to get insights from a pioneer like Prof. Huy Phan. His talk on the state-of-art machine learning architectures and latest technologies has opened my eyes to the potential of this research area.” Shared Nguyen Truong Tung, an undergraduate Research Assistant at VISHC.

The first seminar of the Smart Health Series in the Academic Year 2022-2023 was successfully held thanks to the support from VinUni students, staff, and collaborators. Please keep updated with VISHC for more meaningful events!

Besides, VISHC is recruiting VinUni undergraduate students for “VISHC Research Program”. The program is designed to encourage and support VinUni undergraduate students who are engaged in AI, Data Science, and Medicine. We provide students with an opportunity to do cutting-edge research on the applications of AI and data-driven approaches to improve patient care. Over 9-12 months, students receive training to work on high-impact research problems with our Principal Investigators, Postdocs, Ph.D. students, and graduate research assistants.
Open Date: November 25, 2022 – Close Date: December 10, 2022.
