VISHC Pre-PhD Summer School 2024

General Introduction
One of the key missions of the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC) is to train the next generation workforce to advance the field of digital health and improve patient care. The VISHC Pre-PhD Summer School 2024 aims to provide students and young scientists with updated knowledge in AI, ML, biomedical sensing, informatics, and smart healthcare applications. Participants will receive training in research skills and work on projects with researchers at VinUni and UIUC, opening up opportunities for receiving Research Assistantships and PhD scholarships at VinUni and UIUC. Our goals are to:
- Equip each participant with the latest development in AI and healthcare.
- Help each participant learn and improve research skills.
- Identify potential students for our Master, and PhD programs at VinUni and UIUC.
This summer school will take place at VinUni Campus from July 29 to August 15, 2024. English is official language of this program. Learn more about our VISHC Summer School 2023 here.
In this 2023 Summer Break, the VinUni–Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC) organized the Research Experiences Program to support active research participation by both graduate and undergraduate students. The research areas include everything funded by VISHC, from Fundamental Machine Learning, Data Science, NLP to Biotechnology, Clinical and Molecular Biology.
Tentative agenda
- Lectures/mini-courses on AI, NLP, computer vision, biomedical sensing, informatics, and their applications in smart healthcare.
- Invited talks on AI and smart healthcare.
- Smart health workshop on “Improving Health Outcomes and Saving Healthcare Costs: The Role of Simulation Modeling and AI”.
- Short courses on enhancing research capacity, including research communication, scientific writing, building research proposals, and PhD applications.
Benefits, Funding and Support
- We will provide scholarships that cover the full registration fee for the first 20 students accepted in the summer school.
- At the conclusion of the program, each student will have the chance to interact with VinUni faculty and principal investigators (PIs) to explore career pathways.
- Participate in one-on-one interviews with VinUni and UIUC professors for Research Assistantships and PhD scholarships at VinUni and UIUC.
- Participate may receive letters of recommendation from our Distinguished Professors to pursue graduate programs at top international universities.
- Participate may receive letters of recommendation from our Distinguished Professors to received the Vingroup Master’s & Ph.D. Scholarship Program.
- Certificate for the summer school participation.
- VinUni campus tour and networking or scientific events.
- Matching and joining VISHC projects with PIs for at least 6 months, some with stipends as Research Assistants at VinUni.
- Participants may register for VinUni dormitory accommodation on a first-come, first served basis.
- Note that participants are responsible for travel, meals, housing and other related expenses.
Requirements
Graduate students and final-year university students (including VinUni students) interested in the fields of data science and biomedical science. Cumulative GPA (CGPA) for undergraduate or master’s level should be ≥8.0/10 or ≥3.2/4.0. English proficiency: IELTS from 6.0, TOEFL iBT from 70, TOEIC from 680.
Registration Fee
10 million VNĐ per participant.
