INTRODUCTION

2022 has finally come to an end. It has been a year of both vigorous challenges and incredible joy for VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center. Since our establishment in 2021, we have held true to our mission: exploring the potential of modern healthcare systems. We have conducted inspired research, organized seminars and fairs, employed incredibly talented youth, and attracted attention from across the country. VISHC is so proud of everything it has achieved in 2022.

Before heading onto an even better and more challenging year, VISHC would like to invite you to sit alongside us and look back at the big moments that have shaped who we are, and motivated us to keep moving forward. Have a wonderful New Year, friends of ours, and don’t forget to stay in touch!

THE FIRST EVER GLOBAL SMART HEALTH WORKSHOP HELD

This first major public event focuses on the research on biomedical sensing, informatics, and their applications in smart healthcare. Four projects from VISHC entered the discussion. Learn more.

FIRST NOTABLE PROJECT: Wastewater Epidemiological Surveillance in Vietnam

The project aims to develop a tool for epidemiological surveillance for pathogen transmission in local communities. It has been successfully developed and ready to be transferred. Learn more.

VAIPE – A protective healthcare monitoring and Supporting System for Vietnamese

A mobile application that collects, manages, and analyzes personal health data, as well as automatically identifies medications from pill images. VAIPE has incredibly positive reception and has assisted the research of many inside and outside of VinUniversity. Learn more.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR VAIPE @AI AWARDS 2022

Right after launch, VAIPE project received a great honor from AI4VN 2022 hosted by VnExpress with the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It won 1st place out of hundreds of contestants. Learn more.

SHARING KNOWLEDGE: Smart Health Series 22-23

VISHC appreciates all those interested in smart health applications, and uses this opportunity to spread specialized knowledge to a wider audience. The first seminar was held successfully, allowing many more to come. Learn more.

20+ PUBLISHED SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES

From deep learning-based applications in cardiology to sleep apnea detection, VISHC is putting out valuable research on all matters related to smart health technology. In less than one year, VISHC researchers and students have published 20 scientific articles in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals and conferences (Scientific Data (Nature), Frontiers in Digital Health, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, The Asian Conference on Computer Vision (ACCV), The 51st International Conference on Parallel Processing, PLOS One, etc.).  Learn more.

Looking back at the eventful year, beloved members of VISHC have got a lot to share about the experience here.

“My time at Vinuni-Illinois Smart Health Center this year has been nothing short of amazing. By having the chance to work with self-motivated, ambitious peers as well as highly passionate supervisors and professors, not only did I improve my knowledge of my field but I also grew as a person. In 2023, I hope to be more involved in research that aims to have a concrete impact on the wellbeing of everyone.”
